Lessons in Learning

The last term of the school year is often the most hectic, but I have to say, there is something about the hustle and bustle of a school in motion that brings me a feeling of great accomplishment and pride. When I walk down the hallways here, surrounded by chattering students,  I often find myself thinking, “This is what it´s all about.” Seeing our students thriving and happy in the learning environment we have created is a tremendous feeling as an educator.

We had a wonderful Olympics Week last week, with students taking alternative classes related to the Olympics. Students learned about the history of the Olympics, participated in a mini-Olympics, and even imagined and made plans for the 2052 Olympic Games. Students also enjoyed a student choice day and had opportunities to do a variety of sports activities, including cycling, rock climbing, beach volleyball, and yoga.

It´s always energizing to see our students in action during these alternative learning experiences, and we as a school are reminded of an important fact: learning is not limited to the traditional classroom setting. In fact, some of the best learning experiences occur when we don´t realize that we're learning!

As we head into the last weeks of the school year, amid the excitement of it all, I hope all of us in the IES Gothenburg community can pause and reflect on what a wonderful thing it is we are doing here for our students.

Spring Happenings

We are now fully back in the swing of things and this term is shaping into one that is full of action.  The National Tests have started and we are also busy planning a week of lessons and activities based on the theme of the Olympics. We also have coming up, with the support of our PTA and Student Council, an Easter Bazaar. This promises to be a wonderful occasion packed full of activities and fun. Next year’s Grade 6, 90 students, will soon come to the school for a Workshop day and we will also invite the School Inspectors to our school within the next few weeks. Read more

We Are Changing the World!

What a fantastic week this has been. It has been a wonderful, stimulating, successful, but also incredibly intense experience. We started our UN week with three days of special workshops, lectures and lessons based on the UN. The theme this year was ‘Change the World’ and we studied the Rights of Children, learnt the importance of clean water, performed dances and songs from a multitude of countries across the world, made flags and maps, decorated our school building etc Read more

A Flurry of Fall Activities!

It is soon midterm and we are working hard with lots of things. We are proud to announce that we now have a PTA at IES Gothenburg. There is a PTA board and they already have many ideas for cooperation. Minutes from the meetings and other information will be posted on SchoolSoft. A couple of weeks ago Mr. Toste, from the HQ visited us. Mr. Toste is the Student Development Manager for all IES and he ran a workshop called “Verbal Judo” for our grade 7. Verbal Judo is about confidence, respect and how we treat each other and it was highly appreciated by both students and staff. Read more

Welcome Back!

Welcome Back! I am delighted to welcome both our returning students and all the new faces that we have in our student body. I am sure that everyone has already noticed all the wonderful changes that we have made in and around our school over the summer break. We have created brand new Art and Textile rooms, as well as a second school lounge and café area. We have also started a library and have made improvements to our school yard, including laying artificial grass to our court areas. Read more

Thank You For A Wonderful First Year!

It is a fantastic feeling to say that we have now accomplished our first school year for IES Gothenburg! I want to say a warm THANK YOU to all students, teachers, and parents! We have all learned a lot and it has been a wonderful experience to be part of this journey.
I have seen so many students grow and work very hard to succeed with bilingual teaching. They have learned during the year how it is to be an IES student and how we can create our school spirit!
