Olympic Week at IESG

IES Gothenburg students celebrated the upcoming 2012 summer Olympic Games with a special "Olympic Week". Students participated in alternative classes centered around the Olympic theme to learn about various aspects of the Olympics. Classes offered included "The History of the Olympics", "London Calling", "Mini-Olympics", "Marketing and Advertising", and the week even ended in a staging of an opening ceremony.  Read more

IESG Goes to Quarter Finals in Angered Football Cup

Congratulations to the ninth graders who participated in the Angered Football Cup and made it to the quarter finals!  Team IESG, coached by teacher Galib Divovic, played three games against other schools in Gothenburg. Read more

7B Student Wins Class Trip to Ringhals

Congratulations to Alva in 7B for winning her class a trip to Ringhals Power Plant. Alva completed a crossword puzzle about renewable energy and wrote about her interest in being a scientist when she is older. Ringhals is an environmentally friendly energy producer and produces almost 20 percent of Sweden´s electricity.  "I´m interested in working with renewable energy, so I´m excited to get to go to Ringhals and learn more about what they do there," said Alva. Thank You for a Wonderful Easter Bazaar!

Students, parents, teachers, and friends came together on Friday for IES Gothenburg´s first annual Easter Bazaar. Parents and members of the community donated books to be sold in the book store and prizes to be won in the lottery and silent auction. There were cafes selling home-made baked goods and a special international market, with delicious dishes from all over the world! Read more

IESG French Students Headed to Language Olympics

Ninth graders from Ms Öberg´s French class have qualified to participate in the regional final of the Language Olympics on Friday, March 16, in Ljungby. Nineteen students from IESG will compete in the Olympics, and we know they will make us proud!

9th Graders Learn How to Make Healthy Snacks!

Something smells good in the IESG Home Economics Kitchen! Students from grade 9 have been busy creating healthy snacks, taking into consideration a food´s nutritional value, ability to satisfy, and, of course, taste. Guiding the students through the process was our Home Ec. teacher Ms Saksi. "Most of the students thought it was really nice to do their own snacks," she said. "They also thought a lot about how to make their snacks look nice, because you also eat with your eyes." Read more

Grand Opening of the IESG Library

IES Gothenburg celebrated the grand opening of its new library with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony by Ms Rothstein. Students were invited into the library to peruse the shelves, admire the amazing world map mural created by students during UN Week, and meet the librarian, Ms Öberg. Students also participated in a quiz where the students answered questions about books and guessed which teachers were hidden behind their favorite books.
